Where Do You Mount Your Spare Tire?

I have a shorlander trailer with a 1998 Sportster 1800 and I've mounted the spare tire on the front of the trailer, on the tounge between the bow of the boat and the hitch, but, the weight seems like it's unbalanced with this setup, I'm wondering what others are doing for spare tire?

Thanks!

I just throw mine in the back of the Jeep for the summer, that way it doesn't matter what ski I'm towing I've got a spare.

Every one of my trailers has a different size tire. Speaking of that... I need a spare for my Islandia.

How heavy is the tire?!??!?!?! (lol) Generally... I just find a hole, and mount it. Over the years... I normally mount them with a "Mount". But, I've had a few trailers that I just put it flat on a tube, with either a U-bolt... or std bolts, if there is a good hole to put the bolt in.

my guess is that steel wheel and tire togethor weighs close to 50lbs and it's all tounge weight so it does make a difference.

I would guess 20-25lbs. I've got three trailers, a Moonshine, Yacht Club, and a Shore-lander, all use the same rim and tire. I only own one spare.

I guess if it's only 25lbs, it's not a big deal, it's been awhile since I've handled the wheels so I'm not sure, or maybe I'm just turning into a wus and think it's heavier than it is.

Mine is U-bolted to the trailer frame just aft of the vertical post. So, that puts it below the bow of the boat. Still in front of the trailer wheels, so contributing to tongue weight, but 3 feet aft of where I was going to put it... between the tongue and the vertical post.

The weight of the tire shouldn't make a difference in the tongue weight. Well... at least, not enough to cause an issue. I know there is a perfect balance... but I've never worried about "Balancing" my trailers. More or less... as long as they aren't tail heavy... they will tow straight, without swaying. And, tongue weight is only a factor, if the tow vehicle is getting crushed. (a$$ down, and nose up)

To sum it up..... Nose heavy, and relativity level.... you are good to go.

So... with that said... just find a spot, and bolt it on.

I have my spare tire mounted on my spare rim. LOL, I couldn't resist.

But honestly, I have mine mounted on the tongue, you can see it in the pic. From the u-bolt that mounts it there is 32" to the centerline of the ball. I can lift the front of my trailer but I have to work to do it. I have not moved anything from the day I bought it. I also try and never lift the tongue, that is what the jack is for. It's just an awkward position to try and lift and I don't want to smoke my back.
