when doing a compression test what reading should i use when the engine is actually cranking it will get to 150 but as soon as it stops cranking the gauge goes to 120..so what number should i go by the static number or the cranking number?
thanks jeff

It sounds like you have a faulty gauge, there's a valve in the base of the gauge that holds the air pressure, similar to a bicycle tire valve. It should be the peak pressure.

Yep... what he said. It should hold peak pressure. If it's not... check over the gauge, and look for a leak.
