What's the trick to opening latches on air intake?

Just bought a '96 Challenger and I'm learning the ropes. I'm stumped by the latches on the air intake. Can one of you help me out please.

Also noticed in the manual that there's supposed to be a small rod in the center of the cover. Apparently you lift it to lubricate something. Mine's missing. Do I need to find a replacement?

Slide the black clips sideways then remove cover. At least that is how mine works. Not sure about the lubrication thing. May be for winterizing with fogging oil???

If your latches are like mine they slide on and off, one end has a small notch that "hooks". Hope this helps

Not a "rod" but there is a small plug for the hole in the center of the cover, you remove it to fog the cylinders.
