whats the top speed on your boat with gps

Last year: 49 with two adults a dog and 1/2 tank of fuel.
This year: 0... For now.

After finally getting all the "kinks" worked out of my 97 speedster, I decided to check the speed on my gps. With a full tank and me weighing in at 235lbs, I reached 52mph. Plenty fast for me.

By myself, and no top... I'm getting up to 47 mph. With 7 or 8 people... I've never tried to see how fast it will go. But... I would imagine that it would be 40~42.

Not bad for the size. But, the last year of the Islandia, with twin 255 Rotax engines... it was pushing over 60.

Since we already have this top speed thread here, I was wondering if there are any single engined Sportster owners here? What's your top speed with one 717. I'm interested 'cause Explorer's dry weight (323 kg (712 lb) is a lot less than Sportster's (530 kg (1166 lb) but from little info I found from internet it seems that Sportsters are lot faster, with speeds ~47 mph. I'm not even reaching 43... Is the Hypalon tube such a sailcloth that it brakes down all the speed or is the different form of the hull the factor that makes Sportster go faster?

1 million mph

But really. Just me, 49 on GPS with full 40 gal of fuel on basically glass water.

With wife, daughter, dog and gear and full tank, I saw 45 on GPS.

I'm happy with that for the little 717s.

The sportster has a lot less drag from hull in water than the explorer does.

I would like to add one more thing to the original question, what was your speedometer saying compared to the GPS? Are the speedometers all off the same or are they all over the map.

By myself my speedo read about 51 so 2 high

With family it read 40, so 5 low. I think because it uses a wheel the water conditions have a huge effect on them. Not like are car where they are a percent off. And on twin engines where wheel is on one side if you turn opposite way you read faster than if you turn into the wheel. If that makes sense to ya.

Guess I have to go with that answer, still makes me wonder 'cause when it starts planing the hull merely touches water... pumps and impellers are the same I believe?

I have a 2004 sportster 951 di. It does 50 mph with my son and me on gps. Fresh engine (S.E.S. rebuild), fresh Solas impeller, fresh wear ring, and new pump rebuild kit. 13/19 pitch impeller seemed to be the best for hole shot and speed. I had a speed impeller on it for a while, it wasn't much faster and I struggled to pull up a skier.
