Hey guys what is everyone using for a mildew remover? Also is there any kind of mildew preventer?

I use star brite mildew and stain remover. Preventer, none that I know of.

I had the same question.. I picked up Star Brite from West Marine. Tried it on my 97 Challenger 1800 white seats and it worked great. I too am looking for something to protect after I clean. Haven't come across anything yet.

Starbrite didn`t work so well for me, even after soaking a few times. still left the seats with the measels. the bottom cushions.
I`ll be replacing the helm seats anyway with something more comfortable...

This is such an interesting subject for me, I've been testing a couple of these and haven't gotten to the Starbright yet but have tested the Attwood mildew stain remover which worked like a dream to remove mildew from my seadoo's vinyl upholstery. I don't recall any smell to the Attwood mildew stain remover.

Wal-Mart carries the Attwood Mildew Stain Remover, but last time I was there they had none on the shelves, Wal-Mart has been really cutting back on inventory the past few years.

I've also tried Spray Nine cleaner/disinfectant unsuccessfully but I dunno if it's the right stuff, it didn't do jack squat on my seadoo vinyl upholstery mildew hardly, it's says it's a disinfectant and cleaner, also says "one product does it all" so maybe it's not designed specifically to kill mildew? Just didn't work for me! This one smelled just like 409 too, only weaker. Maybe 409 would work better on everything else, I've even cleaned up some nasty stuff with 409.

You have to keep the area ventilated and dry to avoid mildew growth, clean as well. There are garden-use fungicides that might work but I'm hesitant to put them on my vinyl b/c I think they may be acidic. Don't put something on your vinyl that might promote mold growth, pollen is a big contributor to mold growth.
