What's that black rubber grommet between seat and fuel selector?

That black grommit is supposed to have a hose (under the steernig column) connected to it, however, mine has been removed during service (by accident or on purpose, I do not know) How important is it that the hose be attached, and what does that little bugger do? I'm hesitant to take out until I know more?

I amnot an engineer or mechanic. How wll having this hose disconnected affect the way it performs on the water? (I don't want to get stranded)

No worries,,,you will not get stranded,,,when you say it is disconnected,,,is the checkvalve not there at all?,,,just an open hose,,,the only con eould be thst if you flipped the ski,,,fuel will leak out.

The checkvalve (I guess you mean the black rubber grommet) is there, just the hose that connects to it underneath has been cut into 2 pieces. I read somewhere if not connected, the ski will cut out at high speeds. Is there any truth to this?

many summers ago,,,I had to park my ski in direct sunlight,,,I started to hace flooding problems,,,got sage advice that my tank relief valve was ot releasing and forcing the needle in the seat in the carbs to "pop"open,,,we were at a race,,,and to save time,,,we took a thin screw driver and rammed it into the top check valve,,,situation solved,,,not oroperly of course...but I guess you get jist of my argument,,,

Just a caution that if it's the pressure relief line, you could be venting gas fumes into your hull.
