Going to look at a 95 challenger tomorrow. Guy want's 1500 for the boat with trailer with some issues like bad upholstery and mildew. Besides that they said bad starter and a blown engine but the other one is new with low hours.

The trailer is no good and the hull isn't of any use to me so I asked for just the engines and the computer.

They said 600 for just that. It would include a good mpem and a good engine. Plus the other engine would be rebuildable or maybe something simple to fix. Both are less than 30 hours on them from being dealer replacements.

I don't have any use for the computer but thought it would be good to get. And I don't really have any use for the engines either. I just know they should be quite valuable next season when people start looking for them.
Would 600 be a good price for those parts ?

Thanks for looking. Turn's out its a 95 with two 650X's I think. Both starters seized. Thing was a mess but it did have a good computer. Both engines felt a little rusty while turning them over by hand. So I gave up on it. Would be nice to have the parts but I have no use for it.

The 94 and 95 owner's facing dead MPEM's have good aftermarket options from Seadoosource these days. The MPEM's from those are not near as valuable as the later ones.

From my limited research, Matt is correct, when I looked into it, the earlier ones didn't have a whole lot of value, but overall I think its good value, if your interested in a project those hulls have a lot of part on them that people want, switches, gauges, start buttons, storage door's, etc. But @ 1500 not sure if you will see a return on investment with the misc. But $600 for two engines and the MPEM is a very fair price and I can't possibly see how you'd take a loss on that purchase.

oops, edit, just read the 2nd post that they were 650's, not nearly as much value there as you'd have with 717's or 787's so I withdraw my comment. Those 650's don't have much demand since they are only generally needed by somebody that has a really really old ski to fix up, and the refurb's with warranty's on those are pretty cheap as well so it drives the value down further. If your bored consider a lowball ? The hull's once stripped clean, have pretty much zero value, at least I haven't found a way to make a dime off of them, i'm usually paying somebody to take them instead.

Right, thanks guys. I'm always looking for something valuable but in this case its just so much work for little dividend.

I thought they were 717's at first and I would have jumped on those or better yet the 787's ! But those are hard to come by around here.

In the mean time I'm always checking out the local for sale's when an XP or GSX comes up.

At least when it comes to parts machines I have had the most success myself with 787/951. Larger demand and more consistent prices. I tend to look almost every day at the listings although I am also quite picky. I look at maybe 15 a year but only buy 5-7 at best.

717's many times in my opinion are better off being fixed up to resell as a whole.

The last boat I did was a 97 it was posted on this forum by another member and I ended up leaving work to go look at it and brought it home that same day. I have already received my return on the initial investment and the hull and trailer are already gone but I'll be selling miscellaneous parts out of boxes for another year.
