Hello everyone,
I have a 2000 Challenger with a broken piston ring on the passagger side enging. I'm not sure what todo, do I buy a Engine from SBT or do I put the boat back together and sell it as is? If I keep it , do I need to replace both engines or is ok to just replace one? if I sell it, is $1200 asking to much? looking for some input.

You only need to do one engine but you need to find the cause or you’ll toast the new one too. Dirty carbs?

If the boat is in good shape, and you like it... then fix the engine, and enjoy it. As far as selling it... that up to you... and the asking price is impossible for use to advise you on since we can't see it.

Hey Carl, exactly what year make and model is your Challenger. Any 20-foot Challenger or model year 2000 Challenger would be a Merc powerhead not rotax Motors. That will make a big difference in repair cost or sale price

It is a 2000 with rotax motors. For 2- 720 engines, it's going to run me $1870.00 from SBT. I got the boat for less then that. That is why I'm having hard time making a decision.

It's not a model year 2000. It's a "Challenger 2000." If it's a '99 and earlier... it's a Rotax boat.

I just looked it up on Boatpro Hin/Vin Validation
Certification Date May 1999
Model Year: 2000
So is it a 1999 or 2000?Seadoo Boat.jpgSeadoo Engine.jpg

Sea Doo Jetboat Model/Year Engine Reference

looks like a 16? foot challenger with twin rotax 717 from 2000 A.D. right?

I'd buy a running jetski and swap the engine out to save time but you can certainly just replace or fix the bad engine. I would at least get compression numbers on the good engine as it might be worth $1200 for a good engine, trailer and Mpem in parts

OK... I guess I was wrong too.

That looks like a 14' boat. And as far as the "Year"... look at the last 2 digits of the HIN number. That's the year. Also... just like with cars... the "Model Year" will get released half a year out.

But regardless... that a set of 720 engines.
