My first post on this site…. It’s a bit wordy. I'm a snowmobiler, and know Skidoo in side and out, Seadoo products not so much. I have had great luck with Doo-Talk for my sled questions, so figured I’d give this a try. :bigear:

My children are now 17 and 18, my wife spends most summer afternoons pulling them on wake boards and multiple tubs. Our old 70 or 80 HP Sea Doo has treated us perfectly for years but it is time to retire it as a run a boat. For a couple of reasons, 1) My V8 bowrider will be parked as a dock ornament if gas keeps going up, and 2) the kids are getting to aggressive wake boarding behind the low HP Ski. 3) It’s like a good horse, I don’t want to have to shoot it after it being so loyal to us.

I read the other post regarding the +/- of the 155 vs 215 Super Charged models, Power is King with me so that is a no brainer.
Question 1: is there a lot more regular maintenance on the 215 ?
Question 2: have these motors proven reliable?
Question 3: If I decide to go used, is there any motors to stay away from in the past 3 or 4 yrs?
Question 4: I spent some time on the Doo website. Are the various model #'s the approx horse power? Is that right?
Question 5: Is the Wake Pro 215 our best bet? the rack doesn't mean much to me as we leave from our dock. But the ski pole looks cool.
Question 6: Is there a similar model for less or equal $$ I should consider?
Question 7: What is the best all round Ski?

I look forward to your thoughts. thanks from Nova Scotia. Gee see what happens to a snowmobiler when it rains all day... finds a new toy to buy. :hurray:

215 HP vs. 4.00 PG

I'll give you my opinion rather than advice because I own a GTX155 and haven't had the opportunity to ride or own the Sea Doo 215 or 255 of any type.

You are correct the model numbers are the approximate HP for that particular machine.

You say the power is a no brainer for you BUT also mention that you will probably dock your regular boat because of gas prices. ALL the super charged models (215 & 260) come with the Sea Doo recommendation of using 91 octane or higher fuel. This obviously means more expensive gas.

The 155 I have is without a super charger, requires only 87 octane and it's still not shy about eating gas. I'll also mention that she's got plenty of get up and go. When I hit the gas, it tries real hard to leave me grasping air behind it. The machine tops out at 60mph whereas the 215 and 255 will hit 65mph and 70mph respectively.

The 155 HP engine is nearly double the horse power you currently own. It is more than competent at towing. It uses 87 octane gas, there's no super charger which is one less thing that can go wrong and it's cheaper to purchase. Things to consider.

You say you've used your current machine for towing. Is that the primary purpose for the new one? If so, does it really need to do 65-70mph?

I'm really not trying to talk you down off the ledge. I just wanted to say my experience with my GTX155 has been that is a more than capable machine and hasn't left me wanting. My wife and I are adrenaline freaks. We're also in our forties so the logic factor has made it's way into the fold as well.

Try and get somewhere that you can try some different models out on the water.

Hope this gave you some insight. Whichever way you decide to go I'm certain it will be fun times. Good luck

I also have a 2010 GTX 155. Its a great machine and a very comfortable ride. But i regret not buying something faster. The reason for this is that I ride with a group that for the most part own supercharge models. In the chop we are all at the same pace but when the water flatens out I am left behind.
I love my ski though and it has been the most reliable ski of the group.
I managed to put about 70 hrs on my ski..and i bought it mid july! I knew i was going to enjoy this sport but not this much, and that was why i was hesitate to plunk down on the extra cash for a 215 or 260. (I didn't want to buy used bc my knowledge of vehicles is very limited and since ski's are prone to failure if not taken care of i figured my best bet was to buy new).
My next pwc is going to be at least a 215.
