What the heck is this?!?!

So I had a super loud screeching issue when starting my boat after winterization.

Part of it was the impeller grinding into the wear ring for whatever reason.

Another hunch may be that the driveshaft guard is slightly loose.

When I was just under the boat looking for the guard I saw this piece still on the end of the driveshaft (I have my pump out to be rebuilt right now so there was nothing else on the driveshaft)

What the heck is this? it?!

That is the boot that keeps water from entering the splines of the shaft and impeller. It is reverser threaded onto the impeller. Screw it (counterclockwise) onto your impeller before you put the pump back on. Looks like it is chewed up, so you may need to replace them.

Thank you for the info. Any chance this causes permanent damage to the driveshaft or could be a source of a real bad squeeling?

Is yours metal of some type? Mine are plastic. I could see it causing a squeal if its metal and was jammed against the shaft cover.

Yeah mine is metal and is corroded and chewed. Thanks for the help. I'll order an new one with my impeller build
