What is this hose?

Ok, in the picture I'm referencing the smaller hose that hooks into the black box on the right side. This is the air box above the pump in the stern on my '96 GTI. I followed the hose and found it to be laying loose in the bilge at the front of the engine. When the engine was running it was pulling suction. If I put my finger over it, the engine would start to bog down. Where is this line supposed to go? I've checked the fuel, oil, and air systems and can't find anything that should have a hose attached to it. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

It's the battery vent hose, if you have a newer style sealed battery you won't use it.

I thought battery vent as well but started doubting that when ever I realized it had suction. Thanks for the replies.

When does the hose have suction? If it's when the ski is underway I suppose it could because of air blowing across the opening at the rear of the ski, but it would be so negligible you wouldn't even be able to measure it. BTW yes it absolutely is the battery vent, I have the same ski.

Thank you so much!! Yes it has suction when underway. I'll hook it back to the battery then. That's right where the hose is laying anyhow
