What is this component?

Hi, today while changing plugs I noticed this part with an unconnected wire. There are 2 of them on the starboard side the lower unit has the same wire connected.

What is it?
Can I just jump a new wire to the lower unit?

I can't remember the name but they regulate the current going to charge your battery. I have a bunch of orphaned connectors in the same neighborhood but mine has that wire connected. not sure if yours is supposed to be the same.

edit: oops I just looked at my picture again. looks like mine is not attached either. it has some sort of rubber plug in it so it looks like its not an accident

Those are both voltage regulators. The 240 has a split system. (2x20A outputs) It's great if you have 2 batteries.

Anyway... we get a tach signal from the stator... and that wire feeds the tach. But, since you only have one tach, you only need one hooked up. (like on the bottom regulator)
