We had a 97 yamaha waverunner/wave venture 1100 PWC from 99-2005. I sold it and my family got a boat. now we're thinking about getting another pwc and we're looking at the cheaper, yet still fun models. Our old waverunner under the right conditions I could get up to 65 mph and would often win against other much newer models(would LOVE the new yamaha FX SHO), anyways on our list is the seadoo gti with 130hp. I never liked seadoos, but this one is cheap and has alot of features, however i heard the top speed is around 60mph? What gives? this pwc is 10 years newer, with 20 more HP, and more technology and its slower??? Any other models you would recommend that are brand new and under $8,000.... any input would be great!! Thanks!

they all kinda top out at 70 or so, give or take couple miles. I think some law restricts them at that speed. you can modify it for top speed but it would cost as much as a new rxtx. are you set for the new pwc or used one? you should a kept your old one if it ran good.

I was told that the new FX SHO is faster than RXTX but looking at the specs they all look the same. FX is heavier, some 20 lbs, has 45HP less, and its longer. it looks cool, has a lot of features (no wake, rear boarding step) but unless it has a higher performance propeler or some other crap I dont know how will it be faster. It does have a bigger engine, 1800cc vs. 1500cc on rxtx.

the old one ran perfect with only 80 hours when sold, but we just got a new 08 gti se 155. should be able to take it out this friday, but I wanted to know what kinda top speed to expect after the break-in period. also should i just use the learning key for now?
thanks!

I dunno man, it should be ok I guess. I never used a learning key, did give it to some new rider for his first few times so he can get used to it. but if you have a itchy finger then it might be safe to use it till you break it in!

Gti Se155

5 hours on my new '08. Used the learning key for first 4 hours, varying speed, acceleration, etc. Broke out the yellow key for the last hour. With my wife and I both aboard~400+ lbs counting gear, it reached 55 indicated on imperfect water, like BLINK! I immediately decided NO ONE would ride it without the learning key besides us. Don't know what the real top end is yet. Trying to do the last 5 break-in hours this week-end (with a GPS) then I'll tell you. Oil still looks brand new after the first 5 hours.

VERY surprised (pleasantly) at the fuel economy. With the learning key (max 5000 rpm (about 30kts) and three hours running time, I only used 6-7 gallons!! I thought the fuel gage was broken and started getting paranoid on the water... I realize that will change when ridden at higher speeds.

we also put 5 hours on ours so far, took it to Va beach area and to first landing state park. used learning key and got it up to 39mph... sunburnt now though...

This is kinda off topic but related..
My '05 GTX (155hp) tops out at about 53 mph on fairly smooth water(210lb. rider). It only revs to about 6300-6500 rpm's at this speed. There is a small nick on one of the impeller blades, but pull's out of the hole and tows great. Do you think a new impeller would help with a little more top end or is that all the rpm's i can expect too see?
The wear ring appears to be in good condition and it has 30 hours total run time on the machine...

Thanks in advance for all the great advise and tips soo far for us:) NOOB's!!!

Your RPMS are low if you have the 4 stroke 155 hp it should hit 7250 without hitting the rev limiter. I have the 2007 GTI-se with the 155 hp and it will top out at 53-55 MPH at 7200 RMP even the 130 hp will hit 51-53 mph. Side by side race thay are nose to nose. if your speed is over 50 check to see if your tac is out.

well i now have 7 hours on the 08 gti se 155(green) and have only used the learning key so far...got it up to ~5,200 rpm and about 40mph, but not fast enough for me. gotta go quick enough to have my eyes tear up :ack:

Eyes Tearing Up

Guarantee they will if you pop that yellow key on your GTI... 64 indicated on mine with 18 hrs on it. 170lb rider and 1/2 tank of gas. The gas thing has blown me away. I can ride till my hands buzz and and can't burn a tank at a sitting... Works for me. I've got the 180s down pat. Looking to learn some others now. 360s, wake jumps, wheelies, etc., but don't want to tear it or me up. Cheers!

180's 360's and wake jumps.

Ive been riding jet skis for a while. Im working for a rental company right now. 180's are pretty easy, just turn. A 360 takes some getting used to, and you deffinately have to hold on tight. Get up to about 5800 rpm's and then just crank the handle bars to one side...dont do it slow or you will just end up turning regular. Do it as quick as possible and hold it. It will spin you around and lift the back end of the ski out of the water and throw water straight up in the air. Once you get the hang of it its alot of fun. Wake jumps are easy once you get used to the timing. Just like a boat, with a jet ski turn into the wake. You want to hit wakes at a nighty degree angle. And you have to time it right. Like a boat thats coming towards you...you would turn into it, wait for the first wake to start to drop down, then the one behind it will rise, when that one rises then just gun it and hit the wake. You will get a feel for the wakes that you should or shouldnt jump. Some boat wakes can be a little awkward so jumping them is not so much fun. You end up landing on the top of another wake which can hurt. Also, try standing up when you jump wakes, its easier on the back and well...guys that ride know its easier on other things as well. Good luck! :)
