What is proof of ownership on a jet ski

I have a 2002 seadoo gtx, I was told by the person I bought this ski from, who is a very good friend of mine, that the registration, is proof of ownership.I know with atv's the reg is the proof. Please let me know, So I can get this guy for the title. I do have a written agreement, with the hull numbers. AND NO ITS NOT STOLEN. Thanks

By the way I am in new york state, and I know that before I beleive 07 their was a title for atv's but after that it was the reg, I no this cause I own three.

Make a call to Dept of Motor Vehicle. Don't guess...get the facts.

Well I know in CT you have to have the reg and a bill of sale
