What happens to the grease?

So what happens to the grease that I pump into grease fittings?
Places like the PTO bearing, my trailer wheel bearings, ball joint on the car (old cars anyway).

It does not evaporate into thin air, does not seem to drip out. Yet I always have to add more. Where does it all go?

Off a google thread about grease...sorry about all the extra words...didn't want to clean it up....but it's funny.

<font color="red">Has anyone taken these things apart to understand where all that grease goes? Inquiring minds want to know!

My theory is that when you find the grease, it will be accompanied by numerous left socks and pairs of reading glasses.

Rob
I thought like the other guys that it went into that place where I have not looked yet. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

it liquefies... and gets past the boot/seal. pull your gray cover, and you will see it slung on the inside.

I would expect that bearings would heat up and melt the grease. At the PTO, I can see it getting past those seals. But what about my trailer hubs? There is no oil on my wheels.

Ok, just can't see it (boat is already wrapped at the shipyard for the winter).

So why don't newer cars have a million grease fittings like my 67 Dodge. Lifetime sealed bearings?

Yes they do.All the import cars have sealed front bearings called front hub parts.rear is the same..Hyundai,daewoo,etc etc.You cannot buy bearing kits for these cars cheaply. If someone starts a business doing this, they would make a lot of money.I did work at a parting yard last year.It was better to buy the whole car than the parts.

Just put the grease in there,It's cheap and everyone says to put it in.GREASE is cheaper than metal.Think about it.All you get to do is clean up some of the grease
