Thinking about changing my carbon seal to the bearing system....I know what could happen if neglected...I am really good at seviceing the boat so no issue or lazy part at keeping up with the bearing kit...but if I did go this way could I use my driveshaft?......I have been looking but is there a thread on here for doing a conversion?

Thanks guys

Curious to why you want to change over to the bearing style?

IMO the bearings are prone to fail at a higher rate than the carbon seal.

Just wondering???

I'm just having a issue with air leak... Had to change the carbon seal once last year and it is leaking again already....just a slow drip of water.... I used the correct tool and aligned my motors... i have the correct pressure and so on....I wonder if it is the sand eating them up.... Most of the time I have to just idle over sandbars for almost a mile at 2 feet of water...will sand cause this? And if so will it tear up the bearing system just as fast 2.

Thanks

Ok, I got ya.

It is designed to leak water. But when it sucks air it most defiantly affect performance.

Ok found out what was wrong....took the pump off to begin replacing the carbon seal and noticed that there was fishing line wrapped around my drive shaft up tight against my through hull fitting...at the end of the line was a steal leader... Maybe the rubber on my bellow or carbon seal was damaged some how..... Not sure but there is black dust like material on my plastic cover that protects the driveshaft....

the blue drive shaft protector?
well supposedly the blue tube isn`t supposed to allow anything to get wrapped around the drive shaft, but I have seen them, fail more than a few times. Since I replaced my OEM plastic thru hull fittings, you can`t reinstall those blue tubes when using the aluminum anodized fittings, and I`m glad they are gone. I can see the drive shaft clearly...

anyway, be sure to use only OEM bellows as they are pretty stiff. It is normal for water to drip, that`s how they stay cool...
