What did I just buy??

I just bought a boat that appears to be a 1995 Seadoo Sportster, but all of the pictures and manuals I've been able to find show different things than what I see.

For example. there is supposedly a hose connection somewhere near the jet outlet, but I'll be damned if I can find one. There is a port on the right side of the boat, about 1/3 of the way towards the front and just below the "bumper" with a cap on it, and it LOOKS like a male hose connection, but all of the documents I've seen so far indicate that it is a fuel tank vent.

If it helps, the HIN of the boat is ZZNJ1323F595, and I can take pictures if that will make it any easier.

If anyone out there can figure it out, please let me know.. A link to a manual would be awesome as well.

Thanks..

Zach

On the top right corner of this website is a link for parts. Pick your year and model, and you'll be able to see drawings of every part of your boat and where they are. You can become a premium member to download the manuals or google them. Last two digits of the HIN is the year.

Put up some pics, the guys on here will be able to identify the model easily.

Thanks, I looked around and didn't see anything under the 1995 Sportster that seems to match what I bought.

I posted photos of the boat from pretty much every angle and put them on Dropbox.. There is also a photo of some sort of hose adapter that came with it, though I haven't found anything that matches the male end.

One of those two black hoses on top of the head should have the male end for that hose... It's a flush kit to flush salt water from the engine..

Always remember engine on, water on.... Water off, engine off... You'll flood your motor any other way..

Hi, apologies for being dense, but I don't know what you mean. Can you tell me which photo you're referring to? The two hoses I see attached to the motor are clamped on, and the other ends of them are those white holes visible in picture 2013-07-28 10.22.17, which do not appear to be hose connectors, as far as I can tell.

Also, any idea what the hose in 2013-07-28 18.12.34 and 2013-07-28 18.12.41 is supposed to connect to?

That hose thing he gave you looks weird to me. It doesn't seem to have a threaded end to attach to the boat? Is it a slip fitting maybe? I wonder if he was flushing through the "white holes?" When you pop your hatch, on the fuel fill side, there is a black fitting. It is hard to tell from the pics, but is that threaded? That's where I would expect to find the flush connection. But, who knows what the PO has set up. Can you ask him?

That plug below the rub rail is indeed your fuel vent. Don't run any hoses through there, lol.

Does one of the cooling lines coming off the head run to the pump, and the other straight out the back?

I'm dumb. Looked at your manual, that is the correct coupler hose. Here's some pics:

You can, and should, get the manual. You can get them from this site.

So, the next issue I guess is that the round black connector under the rear lid and behind the fuel cap doesn't actually have anything connected below it. Maybe there is a hose that is supposed to be connected and is now loose? I'll go and look at that when I get home from work tonight.. Is there any way you can send that manual to me? I can give you my email address via a PM if so.

Hey

Yeah the hose may be lying lose in the hull.
I can't send that manual, I just look at them on the iPad, and it doesn't give me the option to save them. As soon as I close the browser the manual is gone and I have to download it again. Your cheapest option is to buy a month's subscription here and get all the manuals you'll ever need. Plus it supports this site, and the information here is gold.

The green hose is a flush hose that I am pretty sure they only used on the ski that had 657x series on them. It goes on on the small out let on the PTO side of the head. That black hose like end on the side of the baot is the fuel over flow if you put to much gas in the boat. In pic 16 is where the hose is supposed to hook up right next the engine compartment vent. It doesn't look like the right hookup or they gave you the wrong hose you are supposed to use to attack your garden hose.

Ok, yes, think I've figured it out. The weird hose connector has an end that fits around the end of a black hose that I found just laying in the right side of the engine compartment. When I hook it up to a hose and turn the water on, it comes out of one of the small white holes to the upper right of the jet outlet. I read that the sequence is to only turn the water on when the engine is running and to shut the water off before shutting the engine down.. I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

Now, my next question.. this is my first jet boat. On my other boats that had stern drives, I'd attach a muff around the outdrive and only have the engine running while it was taking in water via that muff. It sounds like that is not necessary for a jet boat, but I have to imagine that running the engine out of the water, even with the hose connection, cannot be a good thing. I'd like to run the engine for 10-15 minutes to clear out the bad gas and basically shake all of the crap out, but I'm not sure it is safe to do so.. Any thoughts? I don't want to put the boat in the water unless I have a decent sense that it will be ok.

keep it on the trailer on the boat ramp while you run it. You can't run it that long on the hose.

Looks like the missing hose is # 17 on this fiche:
http://fiche.seadoowarehouse.com/se...ake=seadoojb&a=192&b=12&c=0&d=-COOLING-SYSTEM

It is likely connected at the engine, just not at the other end.

As I understand it, the big issue with running these boats out of the water is that the driveshaft turns within the thru-hull seal, heats up, and causes failures. Not sure how that impacts the needle bearing carrier type seal that is listed for your boat, though.

Also, in pic #7, your scupper valve looks like the rubber part is bad. You'll want to replace that before you put it in the water, else your passenger compartment will have a wet floor. :) AND... what is the black gooped-up (that is a technical term) hole to the left of the scupper?
