Noobie here and I'm trying to get an idea of the insurance cost on a 2000-2003 Speedster 160 (240HP)? Progressive wants to run my credit just for a quote which is rediculous. Thanks!

I pay like $280 a year with BoatUS. That is for an agreed value of 8500. I could have picked the policy that uses actual value, which is like $5000 for around 180 a year. That is on a 98 Speedster 160.

Also, I do a lot of work helping people fix bad credit. Dont worry about the inquiry for insurance. There are 2 types of credit inquiries. They pull what is known as a soft inquiry. It has zero effect on your credit score. There are tons of soft inquiries against you that you probably dont even know about. Companies use them for things like rating you for insurance or doing preliminary checks if you qualify for credit. A Hard Inquiry is when you are applying for credit. Those stay on your report for 2 years but only count towards your score for 1 year.

Insurance

I pay $290 a year on a value of $8500. My insurance is through State Farm. I wonder if tow insurance is included with a full coverage policy at Boat US? I ask that because I pay $58 a year for tow insurance from Boat US.

I'm an insurance agent in NY, but moved to FL because I can't stand the winters up there. In NY, Travelers is super competitive, but in FL I could not find a great deal. I had been with Progressive, but just switched to Boat US myself. They offer on water and on land towing package upgrades. I think that is the best way to go, based on what I have found. Remember not to skimp on liability protection to protect your assets!
