Hello All, Can someone give me an idea on how many litres of Fuel I'm likely to use for each litre of 2 Stroke oil used on a 97 GTX.

I understand that premix is 40 to 1 but what is a likely usage when its metered ?

There's really too many variables to say. I've heard of people going a whole season on one tank of oil. Remember the faster you go, the more oil it's gonna use. The only way to get an accurate idea would be to go out on what would be your average day of usage on your ski, and see how much you use. And go from there!

Since you haev a 97 you may want to think of disabling your oil injection, and doing pre-mix. I've read alot here about the oiling system dying out as they get older. Yeah you use more oil, but at least there's no doubt things are getting lubricated.

Thanks for that, just wanted a ballpark figure to use for peace of mind when adding fuel and having an idea on how much oil was left, knowing how much fuel had already been used.
I spoke to my Ski Mechanic and he reckoned that in his experience the oil pumps were so reliable he woouldn't bother going to premix, mind you he wins either way if he has to rebuild motor should pump fail ;)

Good point.

I'd just periodicly do the test to make sure the pump is pumping the correct amount at the differen't RPMs. There's how too on the site here somewhere that tells you how to do it.

The seadoo's use a variable rate injection pump. It deliveries oil at a different rate depending on the RPM's. If you mix 40:1 it will end up fouling plugs and using a lot of oil. I would rather replace my injector pump than premix the oil and fuel. I g through a lot of fuel and don't use much oil in comparison. I think a NEW injector is like $130.00 I bench test mine every 6 months just to be sure in my 1997 Challenger/ single /787/110hp.

Oil injection....

I have the 1997-787cc engine that still uses the injection. And personally, being a mechanic, would not have it any other way. Because I only use a tank of oil per season, the saving verses the cost of premix outweighs the risk. Now, that said, I do keep a good eye on it, mostly by checking my plugs, but once a month or so, I use my mirror to check the position of the sync lineup to the carbs.......and I'm also adjusted a little heavy, since the motor is over 10 years old. I tightened it up a little this past season for the extra piece of mind. Never hurts to add just a little more, verses not having enough.
