Has anyone tried the west marine water proofing from west marine? I bought 1 gallon and soaked boat cover in it very well and let it dry for 8 hours, then I sprayed it with the hose lightly to see how well it repelled the water, I was suprised to see the water soaking into the cover this did not seem right to me. Has anyone had better sucsess with it then me? do you think I got a bad batch? $43.00 down the drain.

455 boat covers later...

In 40 years of trying to cover boats, Ive come to the conclusion a $ 8 Wal-Mart blue tarp is the only thing that will waterproof a boat. And it isnt a good thing - a waterproof cover will cause mold and general rot under the cover, they have to 'breathe'.

Robin the idea of "water proofing" isn't about making it water tight...but coating the threads of the cover so as not to have the threads deteriorate over time. It is absorbed in the threads that make up the material so it will last longer...making them water proof...not water tight.
