Got the new carbon ring bellows etc on. Drive shaft is straight. I put the two washers on the top 2 studs and when. I torque down the pump it locks up tight. K pulled the plugs and the engine won't even turn it over. New wear ring new impeller. Is spins nice outside the boat. I even tried switching the washers to every location. No good. Any advice. I'm desperate fellas

Either you are way out of alignment... or the pump didn't seat properly, and it's twisted a little.

Loosen the 4 pump nuts, and see if it spins again. (I'm assuming you didn't unbolt the engine)

+1
something isn`t right. when you installed the new carbon ring and related parts did you first install the pump to hold the driveshaft from moving rearward? maybe the splines are not engaged into the impeller and your forcing the driveshaft forward? what were the condition of the bumpers on the driveshaft? if all spun free before you disassembled, I would pull it all apart and start again and trace your steps.

and Like the Doc said, assuming the engine has not been moved prior...
Good luck, hope you get it squared away!

ok just got up getting ready to head to detroit (yuck) anyway nope never remoned the engine, grabbed the motor and couldnt even budge it a little so im assuming the mounts are good, the rubber bumpers on each end are great, i even took a syringe and sucked some air out of the front one so it would a little deeper before i put it back together. yeap i did that drhonda loosened the bottom 2 nuts and it spins freely but when i put a washer behind it to shim it and torque it down then it is tighter than a well diggers ass again, im not sure what happenedwhen i pulled it apart there was only 1 washer on each top stud, i put them back there but it doesnt seem to be doing any good, let me ask you this, when the pump is torqued down should i be able to slide my driveshaft forward and aft a little? i think when i get home thursday im gonna pull my clip off the driveshaft and pull the shaft and have a look check the rubber plunger in the end again and see how far i can push it in, cause now when i have the pump on and tightened down i cant move the shaft forward or back at all, when i have the pump out and looking at it rearward it looks like there is a little more space on the upper left between the impellar and wear ring than on the right, but it still looks in spec, and the right is just barely kissing the wear ring, heres a question, how the hell do we shim these pumps? is that what the alignment tool is for or is that just to shim the engine?

The alignment tool is to set the alignment on both the pump and the engine. BUT... if you didn't unbolt the engine... and it was spinning OK before... then your pump is out of align.

Basically, you will put the tool on loose, and then slide the pump plate to the hull. at that point, you will see if there is a gap.

With that said... I have installed pumps, and they just get a little tweaked, and they bind. Sometimes loosening it, and making sure it's straight will help.

maybe i just need a new pump, it sucks i only get to work on this 1 or 2 days a week, i own my own semi, glad i have my chopper, here i will post a pic of my scooter, 35 year old shovelhead, jockey shift suicide clutch, stroker motor and my semi which is financing all this. i gotta get this figured out summer is winding down any advise is greatly appreciated and i will try them all

again im sorry guys for all the questions during the week when im out in the truck, i gotta learn all i can about my boat so when the weekend gets here and im home i can get as much done as possible, hope you understand

oh yeah when i put the pump on i reach up into the intake grate and turned the impellar by hand while pushing the pump forward to make sure the slines meeshed, until the pump was a washers width away from the hull then i got out from under the boat and started tightening it down, heres a pic of my old and new carbon ring

ordered the alignment tool from seadoo today and getting a bronze pump friday or sat from minnetonka, hopefully that fixes everyting, but driving down the road i think when i get home im gonna pull the drive shaft and bolt the pump to the hull and see if it is still binding indicating a twisted pump or it could be an issue with the drive shaft, sucks i cant work on this everynight, uugghh
