just bought a 1998 787 RFI motor, long block with a hot products head. It has injector holes welded up. Can this motor be set up to run in a 1997 GSX carbed Seadoo hull using necessary parts from original motor and ,mpem that came in the seadoo. Of coarse original crank and cylinders are not usable. Also RFI motor has no flywheel, mag cover, intake manifold or plate.. Don't know if Hp. head has been ported. Will need to figure water hose routing for RFI cooling. Any info would be greatly appreciated long time SEADOOFORUM.COM reader first time poster. Thanks Robco

I've always wondered if this would work.

So, you will need an RFI flywheel, the nose of the crank is different from a carbed one. PTO should swap over. Get a carbed rotary valve cover, carbs, carbed mag housing (it's laid over to swap the pipe location on RFI's), I think there is a port on the PTO side for a pule line for the fuel pump. I'm sure there's more, it's gonna be a cluster but you can run the case cooler on the underside of the engine for fun, LOL. I know the rave valves are wider, wonder if the ports are in the same locations ? LA sleeve says the sleeves are different, could be the exhaust port is what is different but all the transfer ports are in the right location? Gonna have to measure carb vs rfi.

Looking at rfi flywheels some appear flat it's gonna need to be inset convex for starter ring to line up with starter if that makes any sense. Are all rfi flywheels the same as far as the starter lining up. Pto is good. Will carbed mpem be ok with rfi flywheel magnets position?. If the timing and firing order are good ?.thanks for any input greatly appreciated. Checking ports now

I checked fit the intake and exhaust. Both fit good on the motor in the ski. Which plate do I use and at what degree's?.

Just cap the nipple on each rave housing. I also want to say I've seen them looped together. But I would cap them if the print is the same in the housing as a carb rave housing.

Look at the microfiche for an RFI ski on the cooling system, see where they have the case coolers plumbed in.

If I remember correctly Matt Braley prefers RFI cases for his performance engines as there is extra cooling capacity.
