I just bought my 96 GTS last weekend and this was my first real weekend to ride it well after it ran for a while and I let it idle down a weird banging sound came from the engine kinda like it was running rough is this normal and I just need to turn the idle up or is there something wrong like a loose motor mount the impeller does not have a mark on it and I know the owner so I know it was taken care of so does anyone have any suggestions?

Weird Engine Noise

With the engine off, reach down under the motor in the sump and see if you find a stray bolt! Something has probably vibrated loose and has lost its bolt! You could also take a hose and shoot a stream of water from the front storage compartment and see if anything ends up in the back of the hull. Check for the bolts that hold the header pipe to the engine or the rear bolt that holds the starter on. Just some suggestions.

grab the exhaust, and try lift'n up on it. If it lifts, the see at what mount/s its lift'n at. Also ,yeah, may need idle turned up some.
