im planning on buying a stand up, they look fun. i would drive it on a small lake with other cabins on them. i dont want to annoy them because i know some can be pretty loud (im buying a 440 and idk how loud they are). can i buy a silencer or can i buy aftermarket exhausts that are quieter somewhere? or what can i do to make them quieter? thanks a million

That's like asking to make a Porsche a Prius.
It less annoying in the water.
Theyll like the bug repellant though.

Should have water box to reduce sound but that's about it.
I think.

ok thanks, they will just have to get used to it i guess lol

yup
Probably not what you wanted to here but those are a nice addition to any collection.
If I could get one I would but not good for ocean riding unless you like seeing the sky or underwater

:D

yea im buying a 440 for $400 that needs a carb clean. im actually going to overhaul and replace the rings, bore the cylinders, get new hydro turf and clean it up. its just really a fun little project that will keep me occupied

Definitely.

2 strokes are fun and easy to work on.
Post pictures/bulid thread in the 2 stroke section.

The best way to keep a 2-stroke quiet, is to not start it. (lol)

realistically... on a stand-up... unless someone took out the water-box... they aren't that loud. THe big reason is that you just don't hold the throttle open for more than a couple seconds at a time.

If you are getting a 440... your biggest worry is how to keep the smoke out of your face, since the exhaust pipe comes out the side, at the nose.

I've owned most of the types of stand-ups over the years... and without a doubt... the "Square Nose" Yamaha Superjet is the best bang for the buck.

You can find them for $500 to $1k in good running condition. The Yamaha 650 or 701 engine is VERY reliable... and the superjet hull is the best handling stand-up hull made. It worked so well... that when they went to the "Round Nose" hull... all they did is change the top-deck. So yes... if you go out, and buy a 2012 superjet... you are getting the same lower hull that they introduced in the late 80's.

Here's the one I keep in the stable. (Old school day. 1990 Seadoo Si and Superjet)
