Water sensor module question

What exactly does it do? I know the sensor is in filter and wire coming from it goes to the water sensor module, but it has several wires so is it doing anything other than looking for water and tripping alarm?

Backstory how i got here is im trying to turn idiot light off on dash. I replaced every sensor or verified they work and cant get it to turn off. New tps, sending unit, both head sensors. But when i was checking the water sensor i pulled the sensor wire off bottom of filter and grounded it. It did not turn my beeper on. So just reaching for answeres here and wondering if the module is bad will it turn the light on but not the beeper? And yes beeper is good and wiring all the way to module. I grounded the wiring on the output side of the module and beeper came on, thanks.

The water sensor takes a little time to trip. If you ground it... give it a few seconds to respond.

BUT, yes... the unit could be bad. But if it's sending a signal... it should also be sending a "beep". AND... on some of the units, there is a red LED. Look to see if your box has it, and is it on.

But... if in doubt... just unplug it for a test.

The warning boxes have done a few things over the years... so... what generation is your engine? (Round or rectangle engine cover?)

Mine is the older round one. It does have the light on front of it but it is not on. I checked voltage and it does have power and ground going into module.

OK... if they LED is out... then it's not sending the signal.

You could have a faulty fuel sender that's sending the warning light.
