Water in the boat?

I am new to the Seadoo boating scene. I have 2 Yamaha wave runners and we thought we would add a boat to the collection. I just purchased a 96 Sportster. Took it out for the first time yesterday. Runs GREAT!. My problem is while sitting we would take on water. You would have abou 2-3" under your feet. Yes the plugs were in. I would notice what sounded like a bilge pump shoot water out the back every so often, but it only get rid of some of the water. I would turn the switch for the bilge pump on and it got no better. The extra water did not affect the proformance of the boat. I would quickly get up on plane, and ran about 42 mph. My question is,1) Is it normal to have water in this type of boat, and if not
2) Where could the water be coming from. As I stated the plugs were in and secured in the rear. Thanks for any input.

You need a new scupper valve.

Dang, you must have nerve of steel. If I had 2 to 3" of water in my boat, I'd be freaking out!:rofl::rofl:

My boat gets water in it also when I haven't done anything to get water in it. What about the seal for the drive shaft? I was worried that might be leaking.

That scupper thing is what's on the outside of the boat to the right of the pump correct? I didn't realize it was replaceable. I have a 95 sportster... I would be thrilled if that fixed my water leakage issue...

Well...

is the water in the bilge or the passenger compartment? If it's in the bilge, it can be from the driveshaft. If it's in the passenger compartment... it's the scupper valve.

Parden my ignorance....does that go in the hull area under the drivers seat?

The water is under the seat. I opened the engine compartment and it was pretty much dry. The water in the hull ran in after I opened the storage compartment on the floor. I did not know about the scupper valve, I did check it and it appears worn out. The flap does not seal well. After much research on the net and the helpful info found here I believe this to be the problem. I plan on replacing this with the ball type valve.:)

It in the passenger compartment. I check the bilge and it was dry... until I opened the storage compartment on the floor. I checked the scupper valve. It's in BAD shape. I will replace this.

I've learned so much from all these threads. My water is in the bilge... So it sounds like my scupper is working properly. Just need to find out where the hull leak is at. I also need to double check my wear ring, I'll add it to the list of my things to do, lol!

No... it should not dump into the bilge. The drain under the seat will go out the scupper valve in the rear of the boat. That way... when water comes into the passenger compartment, it doesn't flood the engine(s).

No, I have discovered the scupper valve is bad and that is what is letting the water come into the passenger compartment. When I opened the storage area in the floor, that's when the water started to run into the bilge area. It was dry before I opened it. I quickly closed it to prevent the engine compartment from flooding.

No, What I have discovered is the scupper valve is bad and allowing water to come into the passenger compartment. I opened the storage compartment in the floor and the water began to run into the bilge are. I quickly closed the door to prevent the engine compartment fro flooding. The bilge area was dry until I opened the storage compartment.

I had the same Problem.

I removed the Scupper valve on the outside of the Hull. You'll find Two rubber
flaps. Turn them over and reinstall. Change from "(" to ")". Mine were just
left for a long time with Pine Needles in it. The flaps were not rotten or
cracked. It cost Me nothing but five minutes.
Good Luck and what part of Ohio do You live. South of Columbus here.
I mostly go to Deer Creek and some times Alum Creek.

same problem but ......

i had the same problem but mine was caused
by dog hair colecting in the valve
cleaned it out problem solved

Good read

Many thanks for the photos

They were much help as I now think my model might not have a scrubber? 2005 sportster 150 as I do not see anything like that on my stern.

I know I am a noob in the world of Seadoo boats that's what I got you all for

First... It's a scupper valve... not a scrubber. (your spell check may have changed it)

Second... yes, your boat has one. The drain is right under the drivers feet. There is a hose that goes from that to the scupper. On your boat, I don't think it goes out the transom... I think it goes out where the pump unit is. (it's in the tunnel, facing the pump)

Give it a peek, and let us know.

Sometimes (sometimes) I get water in my boat, the funny thing is that last two times I didnt get water in the boat, I noticed it more when I had a propulsion problem??

Is it ok to have that much water, or what gives, also the last time I went out (last week) I "anchored" the boat in the middle of puddingstone lake somewhere discreet to relax and read, and no water?

ummm..
