Water in engine compartment

Today we were out in our seadoo challenger. The lake was quite weedy and a few times sucked them up but was able to work them out. Was unable to work out what I assumed was weeds so we pulled it out of the water. When unplugging the plug the water from the engine compartment can out and it was hot. It was draining for a long time, when I lifted the hood and looked in there and there was allot of water in the compartment.

Any idea how water got into the compartment?? When I turned pump on, noticed it did work.

If I was taking on this water, could that be a reason for the cavitation?? Is there possibly something wrong with the bilge pump float. Any ideas or suggestions.

Again, Now I am wonder if it was weeds or not. As I said the water was hot when coming out, but I did not get the overheat alarm. The last run with the boat we were trying for quite sometime to get what I thought was weeds out to no avail.

I apologize if I am not real articulate, but I am explaining it the best that I can.

Any thoughts or help??

Thanks,
Joyce

It happens to me this week end too and it turn out to be Tune pipe, there was a hole in it so instead of throwing water back by the pee hole it was shooting water in engine compartment and normally it was hot water because it used to cool of engine, so you maybe have a problem somewhere in cooling system either a loose pipe, crack or just like me a rust hole in system.

if the water was hot... you have a water leak. the weeds and the cavitation probably have nothing to do with the water in the bilge.

Dr Honda, thanks for reply. What exactly do you mean by water leak?? Just now we filled the engine compartment with water to see if the automatic bilge would kick in and it did not. When I turn it on automatically it works fine. We noticed that there was no water leaking out of t he boat?? We are not real mechanical (sorry) Is there fuses for automatic turn on??

the way it work it take water from the back of the boat and send it thru rubber pipe to your engine and exhaust system to cool it so it you have a leak somewhere in this system water will get in engine compartment and fill it faster then the bilge pump can pump.

Okay, so we took the boat out and it ran just fine. The cavitation was gone, and it drove great. It did not take in any water. I will keep an eye on it today and make sure that if it starts to take in water, I will turn bilge pump on manually. Any thoughts!!......

Thanks. appreciate all those who responded.

I had a similar problem with some water in the engine compartment. I found out that the speedometer cable where it comes thru the boat was leaking. The plastic thread was not holding tight and was allowing water in especially when there were waves at the back of the boat. Took it apart, cleaned the area. Added a little 100% silicone and put it back together . All is good. It leaked enough water overnight that it was 1/4 of the way up the engine and would have sunk the boat in a couple of days. It could have been disasterous if I hadn;t been there to notice the back of the boat looking low in the water.
