Water in bilge

It seems like a lot of water builds up. I cleaned the carbs today and replaced all the gas lines. It ran AWESOME! But after 30 min or so, it started to act up. The water was up to the lower part of the flywheel, so when I start it with the seat off, you'd get sprayed from the rotation of the flywheel in the water. I am guessing the carbon ring will be the next part to replace. I am hoping beacuse of the excess water, it drenched everything and perhaps that is why it stopped running awesome??? It has a K&N filter, and it seems like water seeps through the filter into the carbs. The carbs had water dops in them. I am no means an expert, but does this sound possible? Maybe I'll put the stock filter assy on. It looks like it would be a lot better for keeping the carbs dry.

How does the bilge pump work on these things? I assume it's the RPMs that suck the water out? Doesn't seem to be working.

The jet pump as 2 lines I believe on that model that might be plugged up. Pull the lines off the jet pump to see if they are plugged. You need to figure where the water is coming from too and correct that problem also. The stock air filter should work quite well keeping it breathing and protect from any water splashing around. The k&n's work ok as long as there isn't any water in the hull splashing around.

I had the same problem on my XP, and finally drove the thing with the seat off to see what was going on. When I would slow down and come to a stop, those two bailers would actuallyl suck water BACK INTO the hull. I rebuilt the jet pump and replaced all parts, but could never get it to suck hard enough to pull the water out, and it kept spitting the water back into the hull when I slowed down.

I finally just removed the two bailers, and plugged the lines. Then installed a small bilge pump from west marine and hit it for a few seconds every 15-20 minutes if riding hard and jumping waves, or once an hour or so if riding on smooth water.

My VTS motor was seized so I just hooked the bilge pump to the VTS button to activate it.

You could purchase another VTS button and wire and mount it somewhere else since it is a good waterproof button design.
