If we are just sitting in the boat, I notice that we accumulate quite abit of water. I am assuming that it is coming through the scupper valve?? Does this mean that I need to replace the schupper valve.

I did take it off and cleaned it off thinking maybe ?? that would do something, but obviously not. It did not look bad.

Any thoughts ot suggestions?? New scupper valve ?? Noticed they cost about 50.00.

Thank you,

jmonk

Hi ! I had the same problem on my sea do 150. I bought a new scupper valve on ebay for less than $15. When I replaced it, I noticed that something was stuck there preventing the ball to seal it. I would replace yours anyway.

could be the carbon seal leaking.....
do a seach here, there are heaps on this subject.

I found a part number sticker from an engine component stuck in the one on my mom's sportster causing it not to seal right.

Leak when stationary

I am having a similar problem with my 180SE 2009. It takes on water when sitting stationary in the water for a couple of hours (up on the bilge pump about 2 inches). Does not take on water when underway. Have 6 months left on extended warranty so took to a BRP dealer and they can't find a leak. They only put it in the water for 30 minutes though. Scupper valve may be suspect ?
I am running it for the summer , but will take it back in the fall.

Will a carbon seal leak under power as well as stationary? does anyone know?

Neither the scupper or the carbon seal will leak water while under power and on plane. The carbon seal will likely cause cavitation issues if it is so bad that it is leaking water at rest.

In my boat, the scupper is connected to the passenger compartment via a hose (if I remember correctly) so if it is leaking water will enter your feet area but NOT flood the bilge compartment unless it gets down into the ski locker. Carbon seal, on the other hand, will flood the bilge first.

Also should check the drain plugs at the back of the boat, the rubber o-rings go bad over time and can leak. Easy to replace.

If you cannot detect the source of the leak while sitting in the boat (in the water) then you can take it out of the water, fill the bilge with water (up to a safe level) and see where it leaks from outside the boat. If it is leaking in, it should also leak out. Dye or food coloring may help.

Carbon seal can leak while sitting or moving slow.

Scupper leaks are pretty common. I believe they have a hump in them or something like that to prevent the free flow issue. I need to look that up to confirm,,,

Thanks for the info. I am not sure where my scupper's hose, if any, is routed, however I will look into that. I would think it makes more sense to drain the bilge when under way (perhaps with scupper directly at the back of bilge). I did check the plugs - one o-ring was broken and the other had none at all (I suspect it came from the factory that way), however new o-rings made no difference.
There is no cavitation, even with WOT from stop. The dealer mechanic apparently did add water inside and none came out. My theory is it is not under nearly the same pressure to drain out than the reactionary pressure from the 2000 Lb boat pushing down into the water when in the water.
Using a dye may be helpful as obviously the leak is not a big one.
