WARNING!!! DO NOT buy Hydro Turf without the 3M adhesive

I dont care what SeaDoo Snipe says, the 3M-90 spray adhesive doesn't work for crap. You have to spray the H-Turf & the boat deck for it to work and you get overspray everywhere on the boat deck. And that is a pain in the butt to clean up. Then you have to be able to weight down every square inch of the H-Turf or it doesn't stick.

I ended up buying a quart of contact cement and so far I have 6-hours in cutting and glueing down the 2 pieces on the swim deck of my Challenger 2000. Cutting and glueing the whole boat is going to take forever.

I put a pre-cut kit of H-Turf with the 3M adhesive backing on my Yamaha Exciter and it only took 2-hours to do the whole boat.

Does anyone know where to get some big sheets of the 3M peal & stick adhesive that they use?

i use the hydro-turf glue, let it set up, then stick down...no problems here, my friend.

LOL.... even the heros can mislead somtimes.

i used a glue called Travel Tack. it comes in an aresol can and shoots out like spider webs. we use it for glueing insulation to the inside of ventilation ducts. just lay your peice of hydro flat with back facing up and spray a good layer on it. let it dry some what and stick it on. there is also a glue called stay-put that is pretty much identical just in a differnt can but the same glue. they both work and are great.

For a boat... I totally, 100% agree with mrjimbov.

I come from the era of using contact cement to put pads on a jet ski. Even if you are supper careful, you still get blobls of contact cement where you don't want them. AND... I can't tell you how many skis I've seen where the owner has gotten contact cement all over the hull, and even on things like the bars and seat because they don't know how to work clean.


On a boat... I wouldn't even consider any other way. The new 3M is a HUGE time saver. I put the mats in my boat in less than an hour. (and that includes BS'ing with the neighbor)

YUP X3!!!

I spent the extra for the 3M adhesive backing. It turned out MUCH nicer than the stuff I cheaped out on with the XP. It stuck on the XP, but there is a BUNCH of extra glue from where I painted it on the ski before application of the turf.

Another reason

In another thread we outlined how to stick Hydro Turf by lining it up with the paper on first. You cant do that if you have glue spread all over the deck.

wow...3M backing... extra $30... can't wait to get mine... gonna do both of my ski's, it's gonna look bad ace, only problem i'm having is on one ski the previous owner has some stick on pads on there and i cant get all the old sticky shat (glue) off... any ideas???

Glue removal - Goof-off

A product called "Goof-off" works on removing most glue residues and lots of other stuff. Kinda nasty stuff so you don't want to get it on any plastic or decals, but it doesn't affect gell coat. I buy it locally at Menards or Fleet Farm. Comes in a 16 oz can.

I used it on my white vinyl seats and it cleaned them better than anything else.
