For the past four years I have taken my boat to get annual maintenance and winterizing as I live in Nova Scotia. Now that my warranty is up I would like to do this myself. I winterize my own travel trailer and am somewhat mechanically inclined. Between gas traveling to the dealer lunch and the $300 in labor not to mention the $200 in materials, I feel I can save quite a bit in doing this maintenance myself. I am curious to see how many members think this is a good idea and if so. Is there a thread that provides a good overview of the things to do or check.

Thanks. btw. It is a 2012 230 challenger SE Black and white. It is a beauty of a boat.

You can easily do this yourself.

I will move this to the BOAT section so that the answers you get are relative...

Thanks for joining...

Doing your own seasonal maintenance is definitely worth doing. For my climate, where we don't have to worry about freezing, so annual maintenance amounts to an oil/ filter change and new plugs. Changing your own oil is easy and saves you tons. This forum's search bar has lots of "how to", here's one on oil changing from KustomCarl from a while back, there are others on foggy the engine and winterizing the cooling system:

You can get a Seadoo brand oil change / tune up kit for less than $100 on ebay / amazon and other places. Comes with 1 gal of oil, oil filter, 2 new "o" rings, 3 NGK spark plugs and detailed instructions. You would still need to purchase a suction pump to draw old oil out through dip stick tube.

Happy boating

I agree. Oil, filter, plugs are easy for anyone with a little experience. However, we all need to remember that the oil or grease, for the jet pump, needs to be addressed. Also, the wear ring may need replacing, as well. I am comfortable with the former, but not the latter. That is my next project, learning how to grease the pump bearings, and change the wear rings. Once I learn that, and purchase CANDOO, I will only be at the mechanic if something happens that I can't handle...
