04' sportster, when I'm running and hit a lot of chop and what not or the bimini catches the wind just right, it shakes the tower and it keeps on squeaking...
Is this normal, or is there a way to tighten it up?
You can take the side cushion off to get to the nuts on the bottom of the tower, they don't usually make any noise there should be rubber between the tower and the boat and nylon wasers on the joints. All towers are going to move side to side even the 23' v-drive wake setters move side to side when you get into choppy water.

Everyone I've talked to - including friends with wakeboard boats and everyone at the boat show in Dallas last weekend (Supra, Mastercraft, Malibu included) - They all say the towers should not shake if they are properly reinforced.

My guess is those were probably salesman. If its a lack of reinforcement then the hull would flex and you would have spiders in the gelcoat. If its squeaking or creeking its a sign somthings not tightend completly. Check every bolt and nut over closely. Then check them again. Locktite and locknuts on everthing!

Very true on the salesman comment ... but trust me - I took that into account. Plus I trust my friends as they would have no reason to lie. It can't be that the tower isn't tight because I took it in for service strictly for this reason. They tightened everything and it still shook. It doesn't squeek or make any noise at all. I purchased some locktite from Autozone which I'll try out once I get my boat back. I'll let you know what happens.
Mine moves side to side about 1" to 2" when I get in choppy water but I have speakers, light rack, and 3 to 4 boards on my tower. I've never heard it make any nosie but the rubber spacer is sticking out a little bit.
yup i learned a hard lesson too. until i used locktight on everything and made sure everything was snug as snug can be. make sure if you use locktite to let it dry before you use your boat.

Yeah i'm having the exact same issue (except I have no lights and only 1 board). But the rubber is starting to rip out and fall off now (after having the boat for only a month). Everyone that's been on my boat (which is a good 15 - 20 different people) has mentioned the shake because it just doesn't look safe / normal. I'll re-post once I try the locktite - hopefully it will help.
im not sure what kind of racks you have ( or they use but the rubber in mine ar cracked and cut too. must be common but i think that board are hard on them also. im not to upset about it i got a good deal on them on ebay.

I haven't even checked the rubber on the racks yet...I was talking about the rubber spacer that's between the tower arms and the fiberglass (where it connects to the boat).
I posted in a similiar thread. But your tower will flex. It has to. And towers flex in all wakeboarding boats. Mastercraft, Malibu, Supra. They flex. Shaking is different than flexing and if it is making noise then that indiciates something else at work. Such as your connection points. Start with the tightening those and then go from there. It can only get better and good luck
