I posted a little while back about my tower having a rattle on the port rear mounting area, mainly when hitting waves. It sounded the whole time like it was the bolt that screws into the tower arm with the end that holds it to the deck mounting bracket. Well this bolt is actually slightly adjustable so I loosened the lock nut and backed the bolt out about 1/4" or so. I still have a slight rattle but not nearly what it was and while at speed I can no longer hear it so I am good with that.
If anyone else with a pre 2010 model tower notices a rattle that sounds like it could be coming from the mounting bolt, then just back it out a few turns and tighten the lock nut back up and see if that does the trick. If you want both bolts even, then you will have to do both the port and stbd sides. I have only noticed this with the rear bolts, but the front bolts mount the same way. Hope this helps.
