Hey guys i have a 95 xp 720. The VTS does not work. I replaced my motor on it and now it just clicks when i push trim down and nothing when i push trim up. I think that the board in the vts housing is my problem but man that lil sucker is $230. SUCKS! I was wondering if this is realy my problem and if it is can i fix the board i have now or can i somehow over ride it to make it work? I have done put $100 in the vts motor i would kinda like it to work this summer if i can but i just might have to eat it for now if i have to but a new vts housing. Please help!!!!!!!!!!:ack:

The housing is typically the problem as it is the weak link in the design. You can test your motor by supplying current/voltage to the two leads under the cover (back and forth on the leads) to verify it is operating.

vts problem

i dont know if this will help but i had the same issue on my 96 spx when i replaced the motor and the module was bad. mine took water in through the housing because of a bad vts boot by the jet pump. im o.k. with electrical so i found where the wires came out in the back for my trim up and down switch. i then made 2 relay circuits to apply and reverse polarity to the motor and installed a fuse. works fine except there is no trim guage (didnt work anyway) and if you hold the button too long it can over-extend. hope this can help!

i would try opening the vts box and checking the two wires that run along the bottom of the box. if water got in their, the wire contacts where they connect gets corroded. thats what happened to mine anyways. i just clipped the wires where they connect and soldered them together and it fixed it

help

I have the same problem i replaced the motor and the module and it is still just clicking. I heard it might be the relay in the electrical box? Please help!

MR. G:
you read my mind on the relays. lol. i am pretty good with electronics but never have messed with relays alot. can you PM me what relays you used and maybe a quick diagram on how you wired them in? i would like to retain the factory switch and i know i will have to be careful as to not over extend the worm gear. thanks in advance!!

vts motor..

found, surf'n the net, that those motors are direct replacement from, believe, either Nissan 240z, or the 300z passenger door window...and at 1/4 the cost.

the motors only seem to fail about 10% of the time, the module is the other 90% IMO, the reason they fail is because water get in from old cracked rubber bellows boots, change them every 2 or 3 years and your VTS will be very reliable.

to test the motors, just put 12V to them. the module is tougher and they are not a simple repair, they are a potted pcb with relays but it isn't always just the relays that fail. there is a guy in TX who repairs them for like $75 but he can't fix all problems.

hey all i just picked up 2 95 xp's today and they run great but i am having this vts problem as well, the motors work when powered directly and i can hear a relay clicking, i will test voltage at the wires tomorrow, both boats have the same symptoms.
