vacation is ruined...

a good two weeks ago we pulled my boat out of the water. I had a problem where the boat would make a whirring kind of over-revving sound when I would unhook from the water. The forum led me to believe it was the supercharger needing the rebuild. It has 160 hours. I'm not positive they rebuilt it at 100hrs, but i think they did. Anyways we took it to the closest dealer by our vacation lake house. It's called Alpin Haus in Amsterdam NY. They called us and told us it was ready to go. Turns our they only replaced the starter and trailer lights. :banghead::banghead::banghead: They said they would've known because they hooked it up to the computer and nothing showed out of norm. They suggested it was a pump problem, but im ALMOST POSITIVE it's an engine issue. I'm pretty mad at this dealer.



If you want extra details about what the engine was doing it all started one day while i was going a good 45mph in very rough water. I caught big air on a wave and when i was in the air it started making this horrible sound. i thought i had sucked something up but then i just re-started the engine and it was fine. i kept riding all day and it only did it when i was going fast and un-hooked. It got worse later on when it would do it going 30mph and then just got worse from there until i couldnt go faster than 3mph without hearing a lovely crunching noise. I know i shouldn't of kept driving it, but there were places i needed to be.
 
Wow....operator error killed your boat. You can not let the engine bounce off the rev limiter when it comes up off the water. It WILL break things when it comes back down under a load. Then when it felt like something was wrong, you should have stopped it for the day. Hope your day of getting where you needed to go was worth $5000+ for a new engine.

Did you take it to an actual sea doo dealer? Any person with even the slightest bit of sea doo mechanical knowledge should have known the issue if you told them the same thing.

to answer your question, it was a boat dealer that specializes in many companies.
and if I didn't need a new engine, wouldn't you say all this damaged it heavily? and it is the SC, right? or is it a random engine problem out of no-where? what are signs of a supercharger slipping?
 
You need to take it to a certified sea doo shop. Not just a place that works on all boats. And yeah it sounds like i is probably really damaged. What year is it? Its not just a supercharger slipping. You have broken something.
 
Sounds like the washers probably broke and have fallen into somewhere not nice. Have seen something very similar on a diesel truck at work recently.
 
Once i get back home I'm taking it to action jet sports inc. I've heard very good things about them, though i did take the boat there for the 100 hour check-up. They did it quickly and gave me a new wear ring.
 
If it is a supercharger failure, and your engine isn't toast, make sure the oil pump and crank seals are replaced during the repair. In theory, the oil filter should catch everything the supercharger drops. Unfortunately, the oil pump is before the oil filter. The garbage produced by the supercharger is pumped through to the filter. These things have tight tolerances and debris kills them. Low oil pressure is a major killer of engines that have supercharger failure. The link below is geared towards roots type blowers, but non-self-contained centrifugal units like those used by rotax will produce similar if not the same damage, and similar symptoms.

P.S. I see a REALLY good excuse to get the misses to bless of on a turbo kit.... Well, it would work on mine anyway. ;)
