went out for an hour and half... took on about 1 1/2 feet of water in the boat... (bilge was plugged)... fixed the bilge after but that still doesn't explain to me - why or how did I take on so much water?.. plugs were in... no evidence of any damage to boat.. did get close to shore once and maybe sucked up a little sand.. but didn't hit bottom or anything... had the boat out 2 days earlier for 3 hours and took on no water.... any suggestions???

When it's in the bilge... all you can do is put it in the water, and start looking for leaks.

Could be a split hose, a loose cap on the flush port, a crack in any metal part... or since it's a Merc... it could be coming in around the drive housing.

Problem Solved!

Thanks for everyone's input... turned out I'm just a dumb new boater as I forgot to put the cap back on, last time I flushed the motor - just like a couple of you suggested ... no wonder I was taking on so much water so quickly.... plus my bilge pump was full of debris....

good news is that it's a nice cheap fix.
