Towable

New Member
Hello All, I came across this forum tonight and thought I would get the opinions of some experienced SeaDoo aficionados. I might mention a few unmentionable brands that start with a Y in this post, so beware!

I am a big fan of Yamaha, I currently have a 96 WaveRunner WaveRaider which in all the hours put on it has only had a steering cable break.

Anyway, I am getting more into slalom skiing and am finding the little 700 not up to my needs, so I started looking at jet boats. I am looking for something under $10,000. That is RELIABLE and is not too terrible on gas, and a 1999 or newer.

Here is what I have come up with:

Seadoo Speedster - And here is where I need your help. Apparently Seadoo used a variety of engines in this same boat. Whats the deal, which one is the best? Also which one would be best on gas?

Yamaha Exciter 270 :boxing_smiley:

What do you think would be best based on my criteria?
Also what is the difference between a Speedster and Sportster?
Thanks!

Welcome to the seadoo forum Towable. The difference between a sportster and the speedster is the number of engines. Sportster 1 engine, Speedster 2 engines. There are lots of used boats under $10,000.00. I would look around and than go to www.nada.com to get a rough book price on the jet boat you see. I can't tell ya much about Yamaha as I'm a seadoo guy.

Towable, speedster 150's are single engine boats with the new 4 stroke 155hp engine.2006 to 2008,almost half the price of the twin for a new one:ack:A good place to go shopping for specs and pricing is www.seadoo.com

Thanks for the info. I didn't know seadoo kept previous models on their website, interesting. I messed with nada a bit more and found that I can get a newer boat that what i had anticipated if i go the sportster route. I think I can say I am ruling yamaha out at this point. Do you get wet very much when riding in the sportster?
Also, for 130hp sportster owners, Is this enough horsepower to easily pull a slolam skier out of the water?
Thanks!

Sportster

Mines the 155hp,Only had it in the water once for less than an hour.We only got wet when I turned sharp at half speed and it stalled(sucked water through a broken fuel vent)Other than that it was a dry cruise:)
