I just bought a used 2002 Speedster with Bombardier Mercury 240 efi. First time out the belt broke. I took it to the shop and they replaced it and said everything looked good. Second time out with the new belt and it broke again! What gives???

It's not a common issue... so...

1) The new belt was bad.

2) The pulleys are out of align.

3) There is a burr in one of the pulleys

4) The idler or alternator are bad, and are putting too much stress on the belt.

5) The belt wasn't adjusted properly... and it was slipping.

i had the same problem and my alternator was dropping a bearing and locking as it heated up from use and snapping my belts new alternator fixed this.
