Hello Amigos,

This is my first year with my 2000 Challenger 1800 (single engine). I want to get the boat ready for the summer and I was wondering if you can let me know what a BASIC tune up consist of besides replacing the Sparkplugs.

I just want to make sure that I am not over looking small things that can be done, that will reduce performace & fuel economy.

Thank you in advance !!!

Well first thing to consider is what was done to winterize the challenger. If you have that information then we can just jump in and get you in the right direction right off the bat. It will save time as to guessing what to undo after it was stored for the winter. Let us know if you have no idea, and we'll give you a list of things that should be checked before the first voyage.

Karl,

To be honest i have no idea what is was done b4 the previous owners put it away for the winter. The only thing i can tell you for sure was that It was stored indoors, Full tank of gas, and the battery was removed.

I tooked the boat out yesterday and it work great ( To my standarts) The lake was pretty choppy and i got the boat up to 55mph. I ran the boat for an 1hr 1/2 with out any problem.

Any help on things to look for will be greatly appreciated.:)

I almost forgot...welcome to the seadoo forum Seachallengermn.

Ok, it sound like it runs ok if you didn't have any problems. I would check the throttle cables to be sure they return ok, the oil injector cable, should be in sync, with the carb cable. Look at the cable disk on the injector pump. There should be a small line on it and a matching one on the pump also,(use a mirror to see it). Make sure the carb and oil cable move at the same time and marks line up. Be sure the oil injector is full and you use the same oil the old owner used,(call and ask him if you can). Don't mix Mineral oil and synthetic. Give the engine a once over to check for loose or worn hoses, clamps and cables. Check the water cooling lines for any cracks or splits that might happen if over looked. On the back of the engine is a rubber boot with a shaft in it. I believe on that model is a grease fitting. Use synthetic grease and fill it till resistance is felt. Check the outside of the jet pump assy., be sure the "gate", that directs the water flow. I would spray lube at all the points that move, including all exposed cable ends, inside and outside the hull. Look for anything that might be loose and need tightening. If all seems good, go have fun. If you have any concerns, give us a shout and we'll help you out, and get you in the right direction. :)
