I just got a 97 GSX from my uncle but it has a broken driveshaft. I have ordered a new one already and have attempted to remove the old one. I got as far as taking out the entire impeller section from the back so the only thing there is what is left of the driveshaft. But what I can't figure out is how to remove the shaft from the engine. I also do not know how to remove the stainless steel sleeve next to the carbon ring.

If someone could walk me through this process I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

shaft removal....

First, you'll need a pair of pinch pliers and at the PTO hub, look for the locking hooks in the clamp, squeeze them together to unlock the clamp.

Once you have the boot removed, there is a floating ring that the carbon seal rides against to keep water from the hull. It's the one on the shaft, forward of the one attached to the rubber boot. You'll need to pull it toward the back of ski to expose the "0" ring seal. Remove it.

Now, the shaft just simply slides out of the back. There is nothing else that has to be removed.............but, .....it's stuck! Yes, this is normal. If the shafts have been in the ski for a long time and the PTO grease fitting wasn't serviced yearly, the chances are, it may be stuck. Here, they show a special tool being made to pull the shaft from the hub. Kinda like a gear puller.

Hopefully, with a little elbow grease, you can pull it out........
