I have a 2005 challenger that really needs trim tabs due to porpoising, anyone have any recommendations?

I did a lenco trim tab install on my 2006 speedster. They work great, no more bouncingSea Doo Speedster trim tabs.jpg

Rick, which model tabs did you get for the speedster? Are you happy with them? any minuses to them? Looks to be anchored right thru the hull-thats alot of stress at the end of the struts-any concerns?

Thx!

I also bought the Lenco's and have been extremely pleased with their performance. I have a 2001 Challenger 1800 with the single engine Mercury so it's a different set up. Call Lenco's customer service and ask about your boat. They were extremely helpful to me.

They dont make the Speedster kit anymore but gave me PN 15015-101 which I could trim the tabs alittle to clear the parts on the speedster

Paul-did you get the LED control kit or the more affordable tab controller?

Looks like you can get them on Amazon affordably

My main question would be ; how much do they fight you when reverse gate is down? that seems like the most stress they would see with thrust against the back side of them??

The $415 LED controller is under $100 on Amazon same brand!

I got mine from eastern marine.com. They had the best prices at the time.
I did get the LED controller. I like it a lot and would say it's worth the extra money. You can see the indicators clearly even in bright sunlight and it also looks great at night.
I can't help with the reverse gate question. My reverse gate is in the middle and my tabs are on the outside edges of the transom, so there is no interference.

Another question for Rick,

Your tabs have an extra plate ontop of the tabs, did you make that for support or depthspacing?
Lenco doesnt carry any that look exactly like that.
Also do the actuators pivot on the bottom mount in all directions? like a ball socket? that may be the reason for the extra specer to align the actuator to its upper mtg flange?
thx

Rick, thx for the email and pics and a great thoughtful way you installed the Lenco tabs!
I've been talking to Lenco and they used to sell a kit for seadoos! I looked over how they did it and gotta scratch my head?? They put them on the far port and starboard portion of the transom, right in front of the reverse gate thrust! No wonder other posts talk about losing reverse capability when they were installed.

Moving fwd, ill probably replicate what you did Rick, cost for entire install probably around $800 or less. Kinda pricey but for a good adjustable system on a $40 k boat...I'd say its worth it.

Ill post a complete write up with parts list when done..ordering parts on Monday

renomaan,

got the same boat you do....looking for trim solution....scanning various forums on the BRP fixed trim tab versus adjustable tab system (no-one makes a stock solution for our craft)... Very interested in the email Rick sent to you, your parts list, and your progress here. Thx.

Just posted complete Trim Tab install w lots of pics and PN search my user name

look in boat-modify section-complete with lots of pics

So did you have any concerns or issues drilling through the hull? That scares me, but I guess there really is no way around it! How is the screw hole water-proofed and does the hole go all the way through the transom?

Thank you.

on a regular boat transom there is a core sometimes wood a trim tab isn't through bolted only attached with screws you do need to drill the outer gelcoat and a sealeant like 5200 is used to seal the screws and adhere the trim tab along with the screws.,. I am not familiar with a sedoo jetboat transom is it cored?
