Transom Mounted Depth Sensor

Hi,

I have myself a Farria depth gauge and a transom mounted sensor I wish to fit to my 95 Speedster.

Has anyone ever fitted a transom mounted sensor to a twin engine speedster and if so where did you fit it to get the best reading?

I'm currently unsure if I should mount it next to the speed sensor at the back but i'm wondering if the intake (single centre intake on the 95) will cause issues with the sensor. I have considered mounting it to the sides but wondered if this would be too high for the sensor to work when at speed.

You can put it anywhere you want. BUT... if you put it in the center... between the pumps... your chances of hitting/damaging it are greater.

If I was going to transom mount it... I would put it to the side of one of the pumps, just below the chine. But you have to remember that the hull will be deeper than the reading.


BUT... I always recommend mounting it in the hull. (centered) That way you get a real picture of the depth... and it will read while underway. With a transom mount... as soon as air bubbles start to form... you will loose your depth reading.

I wanted to fit an internal sensor but couldn't find anywhere that the sender could fit, maybe it's due to the central intake but I couldn't see anywhere to put it so I ordered a transom mount.

I was under the impression if correctly mounted a transom mount would work fine at speed bit they needed to to be fitted carefully to avoid issues hence why I'm worried about where to mount it.

transom mounts CAN work underway... but most hulls will draw air under to help with speed. (breaks surface tension) And that air will kill the reading. Almost every transom mount I've been in... I've seen the depth gauge (fish finder) go nutz once on plane.

I guess in that case... between the pumps, at the bottom would be best for performance... but as before... it's the most vulnerable spot.
