Hi guys. I'm completely new to the seadoo forum or any forum, so go easy on me :) . After reading a lot of seadoo forums, I am looking into buying a used PWC. How do I go about dealing with transferring the ownership to my name? I would appreciate any advice on how to buy it and legally be able to tow it back to my house. I am in Ontario Canada if that helps. Thanks a lot Shawn.

If you are buying something within Ontario, you wont have to worry about transferring the ownership until you get it home, there is nothing illegal about towing a seadoo that does not have the ownership transferred, as long as you have a receipt stating that you purchased it.

If you want to tow it home legally you will have to take the ownership with your receipt to a "Services Ontario" office and they will change the trailer ownership into your name there and give you a new license plate that will be registered in your name. Services Ontario will not change the ownership for the watercraft, that is a federal "Transport Canada" office.

To get a new "Pleasure Craft License" (the fed dont call them ownerships) fill out this form http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/wwwdocs/Forms/84-0172E_1308-08_E.pdf
Send in the form with the supporting documents as outlined in the link. It will take about 3 weeks to get your new license from transport Canada. At a later date (sometimes never) they will send you a bill for the HST tax on the value you declared on your license application.

Even without the license you are still able to use your ski on the water and insure it, just keep a copy of the receipts with you stating that you are indeed the new owner.

thanks very much for helping me out. I went and talked with the owner and she was a police officer. I defiantly had no problems with the paperwork. Thanks again for the
help. Shawn

Yup Kicker knows for sure!!!

Welcome to the best Seadoo site on the planet!! If I can be of help just let me know.

Every country and state are different. As noted above, Kicker had a great answer. Glad the seller was/is an officer, that normally helps things.
