I have been boating from as far as i can remember. My parents have always had several boats that we have always enjoyed as a family. Aside from a racing sailboat i had as a child. I have never owned my own boat.

Once i turned 16 and was able to drive a car. I had little to do with the boating world and started collecting sports cars and modifing them for speed. As much as i am passionate for the thrill of automobiles. With a growing family it became harder and harder to be as involved as i once use to.

The last two years have been a struggle for me as my sports car was rarely driven and became more of an ornament in my garage. I loved driving it but loved spending time with the family far more. Justifying the insurance i was paying for it was hard to do. So I finaly decided to sell it. I still wanted a toy But a toy i could enjoy with my family.

I started remembering all the great times i had with my parents on water. It only made perfect sense to get a boat and be able to make new memories with my wife and kids. So an add was posted on CL to trade my Honda S2000 for a Jet Boat. Four hours later i was on the phone making plans to see my new to me Sea-Doo Speedster.

What a Gem. The motor had only 35 hrs and the rest of the boat and trailer was near mint. Too good to be true. All in all its one of the best decisions i have made. The wife and kids look forward to every weekend to go out on the water.

Catch you in the Threads or see you on the water!

Sounds like you've made a great decision! You and the family will make a lot of memories with your new toy I'm sure. Congrats!

I kind of did the same thing but not consciously and I made sure to still have a fun car with back seats. :D

I owned my RX7 for 13 years, tons of money, time and work went into it up until 2 years ago when I decided it was a done project and changed my purpose for the car. It was an Autocross / HPDE toy that morphed into a mountain carver. I meet a bunch of friends in the Smokey's once or twice a year to "play car". Have been doing that for 9 years now.

I decided to sell it at the beginning of the summer after trading an older BMW 3 series in on a 2009 RX8 R3, suddenly the RX7 just sat all the time and even sat out a mountain trip last fall. So I decided to throw it up on an RX7 forum for sale at a price that would make me happy to part with it. A pharmacist in Ft. Lauderdale purchased it 3 weeks later. Put the money in the bank and forgot about it.

Wife mentions a boat (we have been back and forth about getting one for a good 7-8 years) and we decided to start looking. My friend found the one I have now for me, he is good at sniffing out great deals.

As you said, best decision I ever made, we are really enjoying it and wished we had done it years ago.

I am still happy the have the RX8 tucked away and actually have a trip planned in a few weeks to the mountains for a long weekend of playing car. In the meantime we are loving our extended Florida summers and plan on boating through the winter.

BTW- a good friend of mine has a S2000 and he finally start doing AX events with it, he caught the bug now, it is fun to hear his experiences, I have a set of tires mounted ready to go with him, hope to find some time this winter.

Good luck with the new toy.

Im a big fan of 90s iconic tuners like the RX7. I actually considered an RX8 as a commuter toy aswell. But when i test drove one it didnt have the wow factor i got from my stock S2000. Here are a couple pics from 08 when i had it fully built as my show car.
