I recently purchased a 2003 RXDI with 45 hours on the meter. so far I love it. I am planning a trip to Lake Powell and want to tow the jet ski behind my pontoon. I have heard I need to close or clamp the water inlet line while towing, to prevent the engine flooding. This being my first jet ski, I am not sure which one is the water inlet. Also, is there anything else I need to be aware of for towing.

Does that model have a bilge pump? Does it have OPEN or CLOSED cooling?

If it is:

Going to be towed

in the water alot

I'd like to see a bilge pump on it.

I am assuming the pontoon doesn't go very fast...you only need to clamp the hoses if you are going over 15mph. It may not be necessary to clamp the houses. I am not sure exactly where the hoses are on your model but there is a diagram in the user manual that shows exactly what to do.

Even at 15 mph, there will be wake/waves, that will go faster than that. And bits of water can accumulate in the exhaust.

I'd be safe, if it is the open system.

Thanks for the feedback. So far I have been unable to locate an owners manual.

The pontoon top speed is around 20, but I want to make sure I don't tempt fate by not clamping the hose. I will do further research to determine which hose it is.

Also, I have purchased a Towster device to tow the jet ski, but have yet to use it. Does anyone have experience with these?

Since you are a premium member you should be able to download the manual from this forum. Have you looked and it isn't there? If so you should put in a manual request!

I have a 2002 rx and I think they are the same. I am not 100 percent sure though. theer is a hose going to the cylinder head. If you trace it off the head you will come to a T in the line. A smaller line goes over by the exhaust. You want to clamp it on the side of the T that the cylinder head is NOT on. So more towards the back of the ski. I hope that helps yo out.
