WOW, you guys have a great site here. Keep up the great work.
I recently inherited an 1995 sp. It had sat for 2 years in my sisters garage. I downloaded a manual, pulled the carbs and cleaned them out. Replaced the fuel filter and replaced the plugs. Put fresh gas in her and she fired up pretty easily. Took it to the lake and went for a test ride. She ran great. Rode around for about 20 minutes and shut it down at the dock. when i tried to start it after it sat for 5-10 minutes, i had a heck of a time getting it to start. it would kick and then die. Once i got it to catch and start running, i rode it again for 10 minutes and then let it sit. same thing, realy tough to start. any ideas on what dierction to go on diagnosing this would be greatly appreciated

replace the grey fuel line, replace the inline filter with one from auto store/motorcycle store, if grey lines, re-pull the carb/s and clean the internal filter/s, double check all clamps, guess you will, if you replace the fuel line..

Alright, re-read'n ur thread, guess you did the filter replacemant, so I say, replace the fuel lines and if were grey, remove the carbs again...

The problem is that the gray fuel lines deteriorate from the inside out and clog the carbs. That's why you need to re-clean the fuel supply system and and change out the fuel lines. Go to like Auto Zone for replacement fuel lines. Bring a sample with you to be sure you get the correct size.

Very interesting, thank you for the speedy replies. Just by looking into the engine/fuel tank area, it appears that it is all the same size fuel line through out the whole system. ANy idea how much line to get to replace the gray line? What about the clamps, i have the factory clamps that will need cut off. Just replace them with the screw type clamps?

Off Hand I'm thinking about 18 feet of fuel line should give you more than enough. Get your clamps from Auto Zone also. Just be sure they are stainless steel. Just take your time and replace each line one at a time so you don't get them mixed up.
