Top RPM 6500??

Hey, I just had my new to me 2000 GTX out this weekend and it seem to run great. One of many questions I have is that my top RPM was 6500 and about 55mph. It had a full tank of gas and me at about 185lbs. Is this about average performance? I a have no problems with 55mph but the manual says it will do 65mph at 7100RPM. Am I missing some top end? It also seemed to idle at about 1050rpm, book says it should idle 1400 +-100 in water? Again I can't belive the power this has, just want to make sure I am getting all of it.
