Too much fuel?????????

I am still troubleshooting my starting issue with my 97 GTX. I got it back from the mechanic and he in fact had 2nd degree burns from working on it. turns out that I am getting too much fuel in the carbs. If I turn the fuel selector off then it starts about 5 minutes after. Once I turn the fuel selector back on I get some fuel and oil mixture out of my exhaust and it wont start. What could be causing this? Are my carbs out of whack? I need an expert to chime in. Thanks

I would go to your carbs. When was the last time they were rebuilt?

Make sure your carbs are adjusted to the specs in the manual. Check out this link for reading your plugs to fine tune the carbs for best performance.

I would love to do this but the ski wont run longer than 15 seconds because it will only start with the fuel selector in the off position. It runs fairly smooth considering the selector is off. If I turn it to the on position it will flood the engine. I can smell the fuel. what should I be looking at inside of the carbs to determine if I am in fact getting too much fuel?

Leaking needles & seats is the only thing that will cause fuel to seep into the engine when stopped.

Ok so I found the source of the problem. It was the needle pivot arm in the carbs. It wasn't bent correctly after I rebuilt the carbs. Thanks for all your help guys.
