To Drill or Not to Drill...

I have a Challenger 180SE and want to know if I can I drill some small holes on the edge/border where the floor storage door seals. A lot of water gets stuck there and also in the same place where the gas pump is behind. I see everything has a water run-off to the bilge so why cant I make a hole to let the water fall down?

Two things come to mind...

1) That is a structure point, and if you drill holes... someone may wind up falling though the door if the frame brakes.

2) If you get a large wave over the bow of the boat, you could flood the engine compartment. (that's why the foot well has a scupper valve)

I wouldn't do it. The little bit of water that gets trapped will evaporate in a very short time... or you can just wipe it out with a towel at the end of the day.

Just my 2 cents.

As usual, I agree wth Doc. There is a reason it didnt come with holes from the factory.

Drill baby drill

I have an 08 Speedster and right away noticed a similar issue. The ski locker seemed to be holding water and algae started to form on the recessed inside edge . I took a 7/32 bit and drill small holes opposite each other along the side

In my case problem solved and I don't think it created any issues with the intergrity of the floor. Again they are small holes but large enough to let that water pass once I cleaned the holes.

thnx all for your inputs guys...at the moment I will just hold off on doing it and see if I can fix the issue in some other way.
