Timing marks

OK as some of you may know I am having some issues with my stator. I have decided to just purchase a couple stickers off of eBay just so that way I know they are good, they are not used they are new. One concern I have is I know some of the stators do not have a timing mark on it so how do I go about aligning the timing? From what it looks like the mark on the stater itself looks to be right directly halfway in the slot for the retaining screw

You can start with setting the new coil where the old one was. But you need to verify the timing. If it's low... you don't make good power. If it's high... you burn a piston.

Set the mag cyl to 0.102" before TDC. Make a mark on the flywheel, and make up a pointer that lines up with it. Then use a timing light to see where it fires in relation to that mark. Adjust the MAG coil to make that mark align.
